What is a Underinsured/Uninsured Motorist Policy Insurance Claim?

What is commonly referred to as the UM policy, is also known as the Underinsured/uninsured motorist policy. The UM policy is an insurance policy you can purchase yourself. It is insurance coverage that is used in the event another person causes an auto accident and is not insured or is underinsured. The UM Policy can also be triggered if you become the victim of a hit and run accident.

Hit and Run UM Claim:

One case I represented a client that was the victim of a road rage hit and run. My client was heading home from work one day when another motorist pulled up beside him while on the highway. The other driver became angry providing the middle finger to my client and clearly shouting obscenities. This went on down the highway until my client pulled off the highway on an exit towards his home. The belligerent motorist proceeded to follow my client to the next stoplight where he gently rear-ended my clients vehicle. At this point, the insurance policies become in effect.

As the other driver caused an accident, it became my clients legal obligation to stay at the scene until the authorities arrived. while my client was waiting for the police to arrive the other driver got out of his car and beat the day lights out of my client causing a brain bleed. This was a severe bodily injury. My clients insurance company wanted to do an examination under oath of my client. After the EUO they tendered the full policy limits for my clients claim. I was able to secure the full $25,000.00 policy limits for my client. This was all an Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Policy.
